The Tiger Eye pattern was introduced around
1845, in Germany. It is one of a number of patterns that developed
in the early 19th century. The chief charactarestic of this and
other patterns discussed on other pages (Shell, Stormont, Schrotel
and others) is that a chemical of one kind or another is added to
the paint to bring about its particular effect. In the case of Tiger
Eye, one or several chemicals are added. The particulars of this
pattern are discussed under Research.
Tiger Eye has always been a striking and popular pattern, but less
common because it is so difficult to do.
